From September 6-10, 2017, experience the country celebration of the Farmers & Threshermens Jubilee in New Centerville, PA. This four-day extravaganza showcase antique crafts and vintage machinery used in the early days of farming. From first model tractors to steam engines, you’ll get an in-depth look how our area has evolved over the years. In addition, you’ll also see dog-powered machines. For over 60 years, this annual event continues to hold demonstrations, parades, and contests to educate you on our past!
Mountain Craft Days
If you’ll be in town from September 8-10, 2017, attend the exciting Mountain Craft Days in Somerset, PA! The Somerset Historical Center is the gorgeous backdrop for this year’s event and is located in the heart of this quaint town. As you walk around this lovely showcase, you will see a variety of historically inspired crafts handmade by over 100 local artisans. Several items include woodworking, stone masonry, glass items, and ironwork, just to name a few. In addition, gourmet cuisines, made by talented chefs, showcase the flavors of the early days of Somerset. These decadent delicacies include apple dumplings, pot pies, and treats prepared by open-fire. And, live entertainment like demonstrations and musical ensembles add special touches to this event!
Flax Scutching Festival

From September 16-17, 2017, this two-day event teaches you about the scutching. This carefully perfected technique is how our ancestors turned flax plant fibers into beautiful linen clothing. You’ll not only learn about this compelling process but also be treated to wonderful cuisine and friendly locals!
Ligonier Highland Games
On September 23, 2017, Idlewild Park in Ligonier transforms from a peaceful city escape into the lively Ligonier Highland Games. This annual celebration showcases the fascinating Celtic heritage woven into the fabric of this quaint town. Several of the cultural games include athletes tossing a caber (a large tree trunk), propelling the Scottish hammer into the air down an open field, and a sheep race. There are also musical events including fiddling, piping, drumming, and playing the harp. In addition, vendors sell handmade crafts and homemade food further preserving the authentic Scottish culture. Participants are dressed in traditional kilts and other cultural pieces so bring your camera to get a photo with one of them!
