What You Need to Know Before Your Visit to the Kentuck Knob

Kentuck Knob: A Gem at the Heart of the Laurel Highlands

If you’re interested in architecture, you’ve probably heard of Frank Lloyd Wright before. The famous architect has several masterpieces scattered across the country, two of which are located right here in Pennsylvania. The Kentuck Knob is an intricate piece of architecture that was designed as a hexagonal module and consists of one small Usonian house. The house sits right underneath the crest of the hill as if it’s part of the mountain itself. Indeed, Wright believes that, “No house should ever be on a hill or anything. It should be of the hill. Belonging to it. Hill and house should live together, each the happier for the other.”

You can tour the house daily from March to December, except on major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve. From March to October, the house is open for tours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesdays from noon to 5 p.m. In November, tours run between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. In December, the house is only open to the public between the 26th and the 30th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on weekends for the rest of the month.
