Fall Hikes

One of the best ways to experience the Laurel Highlands fall colors is to go on a hike. This option is especially great for nature lovers wanting to explore the gorgeous Pennsylvania state parks. Here are two spots we highly recommend:

Beam Rocks

Beam Rocks is a mecca for hikers. This hidden gem is located in the Linn Run State Park, barely 10 minutes away from Oak Lodge, and features scenic views and waterfalls. Take a magical walk in the fall surrounded by bright orange and red leaves and take time to breathe in the crisp air.

Laurel Summit State Park

Another beautiful spot to discover in the fall is the Laurel Summit State Park. Spend a morning or afternoon exploring the park with your loved ones and taking pictures of the splendid fall colors around you. Make sure you hit Wolf Rocks Trail for the most stunning views.

Scenic Fall Foliage Drives

If you don’t want to walk for hours and prefer to stay in the comfort of your car, how about taking a drive through the foliage? There are several wonderful roadways you can take to marvel at the Laurel Highlands fall colors, but our favorite is by far The Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway. Take Route 711 and 381 and go through beautiful little towns and splendid forests. On your way, you can stop in the following locations:

  • Ligonier
  • Powdermill Nature Reserve
  • Ohiopyle State Park
  • Fallingwater
  • Kentuck Knob

If you want another option, Glades Pike is ideal. This drive takes place on Route 31 from West Newton to Somerset and takes you along Kooser State Park, Glades Pike Winery, Seven Springs Mountain Resort, and even one of our favorite lunch spots, Out of the Fire Café.
